WIPs

I have several cross stitch projects that are nearing completion. Hoping if I blog about them I will be motivated to finish them up. Here we go!

Fred-ragon by Cross Eyed Cricket. I do love the colors. I chose to stitch him on dark purple linen rather than stitch in the dark blue background.

A Mirabilia. So much Kreinik and beading left to do. Must admit a bit tiring and tired of it. Oh, and I only have about 100 of her patterns left to go...sigh...

This is an on-line dungeons and dragons type story where the writer just happened to design coordinating cross stitch blocks for each character in the story! How cool is that? I'm seeing a quilted wall hanging of dragon & castle fabric around each character's stitched square. Total of 20 characters!

Danish Cross Stitch

In case this was missed on my Twitter post, this is a bell pull I made from a Danish kit. My SIL picked the kit up for under a dollar at a yard sale. It came with Belfast Irish linen and silk floss. The pattern is OOP. If you would like a copy please email me.

GIVEAWAY 001

(this is so much more fun than listing things on Etsy...hehehehehe)

HELLO!!! Thanks for checking in and hope you all will take a second to enter Dizzy Little Kingdom's very first giveaway. Nothing tricky! Just leave one comment here on our blog and you'll be entered!

It's a TEA theme, and I'll be releasing little hints between now and Thursday at midnight Pacific time. There will be a total of FOUR gifts included in this giveaway: something handstitched, something edible, something to keep you hydrated and something to craft with...the winner will be announced on Friday. Please make sure I know how to contact you (Twitter, email, etc.)

So, you've had your first peek. Hope to see a LOT of comments, otherwise the same person could win every single week....wow, that would, in a very wrong way, be so funny!!

ETSY STORE CLOSED: Bad news & Good news

First for the BAD news: Yup, we turned out the lights.

Ok, egads, another one bites the dust! But don't panic because we aren't. Our original plan was to have an Etsy store so that we could feel like our crafting time was 'purposeful', not just the total and complete indulgence that it is. What we quickly discovered is that we didn't want to work on things for a store, we wanted to do what we always do, flit from craft to craft without a care in the world. But neither one of us was admitting it to the other. So, while I was making things I thought 'would sell' (and secretly wishing I could make wild and crazy dolls) my mom was trying to finish about 5 quilts 'to get them out of the way' (and secretly wishing she could start a new cross stitch pattern or just sit and knit her lace).

You know it's funny how you will just hang in there even when your heart isn't in it because you believe the OTHER person really wants to make it work. I guess that's true in a lot of situations; marriages, friendships and jobs. You don't want to let the other person down. But my mom, being the wise lady she is, made one of her classic under-her-breath comments that I, NOT being half deaf like she is, heard quite clearly: "I wish we didn't have this damn stetsie store".

Wait, I'm still on the floor laughing trying not to wet my pants.....ok...so,

If you don't know my mom personally maybe this isn't that funny to you. But she communicates using a version of the English dictionary most of us are not privvy to. She has words like Hellifax (the helicopter that takes you to the hospital) and Pincher Dober Man (I think you all can figure that one out) and apparently there is a tax shelter I was completely unaware of: A Four Oh Kay One Plan...

Hearing her say "stetsie" immediately translated in my brain to Etsy and I jumped right in: Me too! I don't want one! Do you not want one? Let's get rid of it!

And so we did. Well, I did. Just this morning. Gone. Fini. Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is! (yes, I am forever plugging Alka Seltza Cold Plus tablets).

And now for the GOOD news: GIVEAWAYS!!!

Since we admitted we didn't want a store and we didn't want to sell things we took it one step further and admitted we both loved making for other people and GIVING IT AWAY. From friends, neighbors and family to charities, fund raisers and missionaries, we have always given our work away. And this is where ALL of you will benefit. We will be hosting giveaways on this blog WEEKLY. I know, that's a lot of stuff and it means mailing out 52 packages a year - but wait - it gets BETTER! Some weeks we will have MULTIPLE themed giveaways! We each craft but our styles are different and sometimes we go on binges making all baby items or really going nuts making redwork tea towels. We already have such a huge stash that we could probably give something away daily - so when discussing having giveaways we also decided to offer several items at a time at least once each month.

Well, I hope this post has answered everyone's questions about why we are no longer doing the Etsy shuffle, and I hope most of you are looking forward to the giveways as much as we are. The first giveaway will be posted this Sunday, July 25th at 12pm noon Pacific and you'll have until Midnight on Thursday, July 29th to enter. The giveaway winner(s) will be announced on Friday, July 30th. You will not have to jump through hoops to enter, either. We know all of you are busy crafting, working, child-wrangling, partner-pampering (ok that one was a stretch) and so we won't be asking you to really DO anything. One simple comment on the blog and you're in!

Ok, off to cancel some other storefronts that I subscribed to in my delusions of grandeur and then it's time to stitch! (and yes, my mom did make me an eggy cheesy sandwich to go with my fresh coffee when I arrived this morning - - but then again, I am her favorite daughter :-o )

Remember you can always find me on Twitter: @Killerella

Hugs,
