Latest Book Purchase: "Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts"

I know a lot of you have posted this book on your blogs, but I finally purchased a copy. I love that all of the projects are broken down by complexity and hours. I not only really love the projects, but the fabrics chosen for the examples.

Something Old, Something New

This is the first prototype doll I made from a drawing by Cynthia Madrid, an artist here in Murphys. Later, I made dolls for Cynthia's gallery, Fairytales. Cynthia's line was French peasants and fairy tale figures. Cynthia insisted on quality fabrics and antique trims; I learned a lot and discovered a true love for handcrafted soft dolls.
This is my mom's latest project. This doll has the most beautiful embroidered face. Keep checking back to see pictures of the finished product - there's a surprise ending planned!

And even more cross stitch pieces!

Our latest redwork!

Here is a little 1920's girl I recently finished stitching. She's a future pillow top.

This is a little goose girl my mom just finished. She'll be the center square in a patchwork fronted purse for my cousin's little girl.

Stitched Tea Cups

A beautiful set of four stitched tea cups by Betty.

Humpty Dumpty Sat on a Wall ~

Both my mom and I have a real tender spot for Humpty Dumpty.
Just wanted to share two of my mom's that are my favorites.

Don't you just LOVE his delicate hands?

Deanna's Cross Stitch

This cross-stitch I started in the United Airline's Red Carpet Club at Dulles airport - flying from the east coast home to California, about ten year's ago.
It's an Eva Rosenstand kit. It was an absolute joy to do.
This is a Kate Greenaway pattern.

Yup - this is a Nora Corbett/Mirabilia pattern. Another joy to work.

I loved working the border on this one. It's a very old pattern from a Venessa Ann book.

This was worked in my 'east coast' phase. I still have the leaflet.
Email me if you'd like the pattern.

And these Beatrix Potter bunnies were a kit. Some of the canvas was painted and then you just fill in the white spaces. I got bored...Mom helped me finish it one
Christmas while we were at Stinson Beach.

Believe it or not, this is FRAMED and hanging at my mom's house!

Betty's Dolls

These rabbits will someday get new clothes.
The bodies are made out of resin or plaster. Aren't they darling?
This was a panel doll. I love her bee print jumper.
Goldilocks and bear. She's also a panel doll.

Two more panel dolls from the storybook series. They even have cloth books, reciting the poems they originate from; Polly Flinders and the little girl with a curl in the middle of her forehead. When you turn them over Polly is covered in cinders and the girl with the curl has a big curl and a "horrid" look on her face! :-)

Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf storybook panel dolls. (And, yes, that's an old Avon doll in the background.)

My all time favorite, Alice, the Cheshire Cat and The Rabbit.

Another bisque doll with new clothes.

A plaster/resin hound dog and rabbit rescued from our local, yearly flea market. All new Victorian clothing, including brooches at the neck. Aren't they handsome? (They're sitting in an antique rocker - and that's a cross-stitched pillow in the chair with them.)

Antiques

While I was walking around taking photos of dolls my mom has made or refurbished, I decided to capture some of the beautifual antique pieces I was lucky enough to grow up with. We live in an area with a lot of antique stores. It's really fun to walk in and out of these stores with my mom - we both end up saying "hey, we have that!". It's also shocking sometimes to see how much these pieces are worth!

1900's Pram - thank you, Aunt Janet!

Cross-stitch galore!

My mom and I have this nasty habit of making cross-stitch pictures for each other, or for no one in particular. Over the years we've discovered what happens...they never get framed and hung up! So, these are still considered WIPs, since they're not framed. I've photographed them on fabric so they'll show up a little better. Again, if you would like to know the name of a pattern, send us an email and we'll do our best to let you know the name and designer.
